HSE's job is to protect people against risks to health or safety arising out of work activities.
We conduct and sponsor research, promote training, provide an information, and advisory service and submit proposals for new or revised regulations and approved codes of practice.
The Health and Safety Commission and the Health and Safety Executive were originally established as part of the Health and Safety at Work etc Act 1974 as two separate non-departmental public bodies.
From 1 April 2008 HSE became the single national regulatory body responsible for promoting the cause of better health and safety at work.
The aim is to develop a new 'About us' website for HSE. The pre-April HSC and HSE websites are still available for now.
