HSE has announced that it is to continue the successful series of Farming SHADs in 2007/08. These are based on practical demonstrations by experienced industry trainers, illustrating basic cost-effective precautions to avoid the most common causes of injury and ill health in farming. They are tailored to local requirements and 18 events are to be held, spread throughout England, Scotland and Wales. A number of independent research reports are available on this method of raising awareness.
HSE is also organising 3 more Forestry SHADs. These are aimed at managers and contractors in the industry.
In addition, a further 4 events aimed at Arboriculture clients (eg Local Authorities, public bodies, highways maintenance and building companies) are being arranged. These are are intended to raise supervisors and procurement managers' awareness of current practices and legislation, emphasising the importance of employing competent contractors and to help them recognise one.
