Agriculture safety and health awareness days (SHADs)

In recent years HSE has run a number of these practical demonstrations around the country, to help farmers make their workplaces and work activities safer and healthier. They are also used to demonstrate good practice and raise awareness of current health and safety issues in forestry and arboriculture.

Qualified instructors are used to demonstrate how to avoid the most common causes of accidents and ill health. Nearly all attendees have told us that they have found Awareness Days helpful and worthwhile, would attend another similar event and recommend them to others.

Farming SHADs cover typical agricultural activities in the area, as well as building maintenance. The presentations are continually being updated and topics will be selected from transport (eg tractors, materials handlers, ATVs, vehicle/machinery maintenance), working at height (safe access and roofwork), manual handling, livestock, child safety, use of chemicals and other health issues.

Following the simple and cost-effective precautions demonstrated will help to protect you, your family, employees and others from harm, as well as benefiting your business.

There is no charge for these half-day sessions. You will also receive a free information pack containing a range of HSE guidance.

Attendance is by invitation so we can arrange suitable facilities and refreshments. If you would like to attend one of the events listed, please contact the organiser indicated.
