We suggest you first read the Idiot's Guide to orientate yourself and then identify which additional documents you need.

Approved documents

The Regulations refer to and depend on the following two approved documents which contain essential technical information:

• The Approved Supply List (Eighth edition) L142 HSE Books 2005 ISBN 0 7176 6138 5
  Gives classification and labelling information for several thousand commonly supplied chemicals.
  
• The Approved Classification and Labelling Guide (Fifth edition) L131 HSE Books 2002 ISBN 0 7176 2369 6
  Gives information on how to classify and label chemicals not listed in the ASL. This is the UK version of Annex 5.

Regulations (Statutory Instruments)

In England, Wales and Scotland:

• the Chemicals (Hazard Information and Packaging for Supply) Regulations 2002 SI 2002 No 1689.

In Northern Ireland:

• the Chemicals Hazard information and Packaging for Supply Regulations (Northern Ireland) 2002 SI 2002 No 301.
