Construction Summit 2005: Commitments

Why make a commitment

The Construction Health and Safety Summit on 24th February 2005 continues work to improve health and safety performance in the construction industry started in February 2001.

The event in 2001 led to the industry agreeing health and safety targets to be achieved over ten years and encouraging new initiatives have been developed. Despite these the targets may not be met without more effort from the entire industry; that is why, no matter where you are in the construction industry, we need your commitment to take action to improve health and safety performance.

What is a commitment?

A commitment is an undertaking to take action in the areas of:

that involves as many representatives from different groups within the industry as possible (such as designers, contractors, clients, suppliers and site workers).

More information about action areas and groups is contained in the Strategic Forum Respect for People Code of Good Practice.
