During 2006/07 45 workers died and 3750 suffered a serious injury as a result of a fall from height. Ladders remain the most common agent involved accounting for around a third of such incidents. 'Dodgy' ladders shatter lives. Gary Jaundrill’s story is one such incident.
Ladder Exchange 2008 is designed to help prevent ladder accidents by encouraging businesses to remove 'dodgy' ladders from the workplace. It also provides them with an opportunity to review pre-use checks, training, supervision and other arrangements for ladder work.
HSE will be working with local authority inspectors, the Ladder Association and sales and hire companies to help those using ladders to work safely.
