New gas installer scheme FAQ: Scheme name, brand and logo

Why do we need a new gas safety brand?

The CORGI brand is owned by CORGI. A new brand – which will be completely independent of whoever runs the registration scheme - focused exclusively on gas safety and ring-fenced from commercial activities, will be important in launching the new scheme and revitalising consumer gas safety. The new brand will be owned by HSE and will be available to whoever runs the scheme in future. The new scheme provider will sign up to promoting high levels of public awareness of the new gas safety brand in time for winter 2009.

Will I have to change my vehicle livery/stationery/advertising/etc - and by when?

Further advice about the new scheme will be made available to installers once the contract is finalised and there are plans in place to assist with transitional arrangements. We will tell you more as soon as we can and this will include information about a number of advantages for gas installers with the new scheme.

Will installers be ‘Capita’ registered in future?

No. Part of the work in developing the new service over the coming months will be to develop a new gas safety brand. The scheme will be identified by this new gas safety brand which will be owned by HSE.

Will installers have to throw away their CORGI related paperwork, forms and work wear when the new scheme starts?

The new gas registration scheme will have a new name and logo and it would therefore be highly desirable for installers to plan to update anything carrying the old scheme logo or name for April 2009. Further information will be made available in the coming months.

I need to renew my advert in Yellow Pages before next April, what should I do?

The new scheme will develop its own independent gas safety brand, until this work is complete, no graphics will be available. We recommend that installers advertise in the usual way and then adopt the new scheme logo when it becomes available.

What should I tell customers about the changes?

The Gas Registration Installer Scheme is operating ‘business as usual’ .Gas safety remains the absolute priority. Customers are advised to continue using Registered CORGI installers for all installation and maintenance work. A comprehensive consumer awareness campaign will be undertaken in early 2009.
