Health and Social Care Services Unit
The Health and Social Care Services Unit has national responsibility for health and social care issues in England, Scotland, and Wales. Our remit of work includes:
- Providing support, advice and guidance at a national level to HSE operational inspectors.
- Developing and helping deliver HSE's Public Sector Programme of Work
- Developing strategies to meet the Governments Revitalising H&S targets for health and social care
- Gathering intelligence about the health and safety performance for the sector
- Working with key stakeholders to improve health and safety
- Working with other regulators and agencies who have overlapping interests Producing guidance for the industry.
Operational Units
HSE has several Operational Units who deal with health and social care issues on a day to day basis. Inspectors seek improvements in health and safety standards by using a range of methods including:
- Site inspections – announced and unannounced
- Investigation of accidents and complaints.
- Providing guidance and support at visits, by phone or at trade events.
- Educational and promotional activities.
- Enforcement where necessary.
