Shared values and shared practices

Industry needs to do more to involve the offshore workforce in the promotion of safety improvements and in embedding of a positive safety culture across the industry.

Leadership

Strong leadership improves safety and business performance and good safety leadership leads to exemplary leadership. 

Leadership is a key issue for all UK’s major hazard industries. In a recent report on the three year installation integrity programme [PDF 1.24MB]PDF OSD identified leadership as an issue of concern.

Asset integrity

An asset (which includes structure, process plant and connected wells and pipelines) has integrity when it meets design performance standards for effective control of risks and when the management systems effectively support those standards.

Asset integrity is a continuing concern for OSD and the potential risks associated with the evidence of poor asset integrity must be tackled.

Competence

The high level of activity worldwide is placing considerable strain on the oil & gas industry in the sourcing of the right resource with the relevant competency and skills. OSD has voiced concern that more needs to be done in making sure the complex working relationship between the Dutyholder and the contractor is addressing competency issues.
