Industrial Injuries Advisory Council (IIAC)

Status: Independent statutory body which advises the Secretary of State for Social Security on matters relating to the industrial injuries scheme.

Principal functions and activities: The council consists of a chairman and fifteen members who include an equal number of representatives of employers and employed earners as well as doctors with a particular expertise in occupational health, epidemiology, and toxicology, and two experts in occupational law.

Institute for Occupational Ergonomics (IOE)

Status: The IOM is an independent non-profit making organisation registered as a company, limited by guarantee and recognised as a charity.

Principal functions and activities: The IOM is a multidisciplinary centre with extensive experience and expertise across all spheres of occupational and environmental medicine, health, hygiene and safety. All services are available on a consultancy basis from IOM Consulting.

Institution of Electrical Engineers (IEE)

Status: Independent body supported by a world wide membership of nearly 140,000 members. It is a learned society and registered charity, in amalgamation with the Institution of Electronics and Radio Engineers, and the Institution of Manufacturing Engineers.

Principal functions and activities: As a qualifying body, the IEE admits to corporate membership persons whose academic attainment, professional training, and responsible experience mark them as worthy of recognition as chartered electrical engineers.
