The following pages were prepared by the HSE and HSENI to help safety representatives, supervisors and managers recognise the hazards encountered in the quarry industry.

One section can be discussed at a time at safety meetings and training sessions. The photographs illustrate many more failures than those identified in the text and may be used for your own presentations and training. It is hoped that it will be used to discuss the contents of your health and safety document and ensure that you have adequate control measures in place.

The industry aim is to cut all accidents by 50% by the year 2005. We will not stop there but it is important that everyone concentrates on achieving this aim not only in safety but in health as well.
