So what’s HSE doing to put this into practice?

We are putting the principles of sensible risk management into practice by working with local government and various organisations. Here are some of our initiatives.

• Myth of the month
  We are using cartoons and a bit of humour to fight back against the urban myths – tackling a new one each month.
• Sign-up to sensible risk
  In a joint initiative with the Local Government Associations (LGA) and others, local authority Chief Executives are signing-up to the principles of sensible risk management.
• Five steps to risk assessment
  We have revised our best-selling piece of guidance, Five steps to risk assessment, using clearer language and a more straightforward layout to emphasise a fit for purpose approach.
• Examples of risk assessment
  We have published example risk assessments to help businesses understand what is – and is not – expected of them. More examples will follow shortly.
• Other initiatives
  HSE is working with other government departments and various organisations to embed and promote the principles of sensible risk management, with a particular emphasis on education and public safety.
