Health and safety related events being held throughout Scotland 2008

Events listed below are those which are organised by the HSE/C or in which HSE/C has significant involvement. This involvement ranges from providing speakers to taking part in an exhibition. We do not endorse any of the events listed below run by other organisations.

IOSH - North of Scotland Branch Programme of  Events for 2008-2009

HSE is involved in a number of IOSH events taking place in 2008-2009. 

5 November 2008 - Agriculture Safety and Health Awareness Day - Lairg Community Centre, Main Street, Lairg

This event will be held from 9am to 1pm and is aimed at SMEs to provide refresher training by practical demonstrations. Please contact Lawrence Murray on 0131 247 2037 or Nikki Jack on 0131 247 2109.

6 November 2008 - Agriculture Safety and Health Awareness Day - Caithness Livestock Centre, Quayarae Watten, Caithness

11 November 2008 - Risk Assessment Workshop - HSE office, Longman House, Inverness

19 November 2008 - Scottish Fire and Forensic Conference - Holiday Inn, East Kilbride

John Madden, HM Principal Inspector, has been invited to speak at the above conference. Other speakers include Brain Sweeney, Chief Fire Officer of Strathclyde Fire and Rescue, Professors Jose Torero, Tony Busuttil and Dr Niamm McDaeid.

26 November 2008 - A cutting edge panel debate on ' A question of safety - zero risk or personal responsibility' - Scottish Parliament, Holyrood, Edinburgh

11 December 2008 - Widening Horizons - from HSC to HSE - Napier University, Craighouse Campus, Edinburgh

Danny Carrigan, HSE Board Member has been invited to speak at the IOSH Edinburgh Branch meeting at 1.30pm on 11 December about the real life of an HSE Board Member.  Car parking is available. 

16 December 2008 - Legionella Training Day - Dewar's Centre, Perth

This event being hosted by the Health and Safety Executive will be held from 930 to 1630. The aim is to provide awareness training on Legionella for Local Authority, Environmental Health Officers across Scotland. 28 January 2009 - Construction Safety and Health Awareness Day - Inverness Caledonian Football Club, Inverness

The Health and Safety Executive in partnership with Construction Skills will be giving presentations and practical demonstrations relating to health and safety in the construction industry. The target audience includes SMEs in the Highlands, Local Contractors and those who have contact with Construction skills. 4 February 2009 - Health and Safety in Care Homes - Strathclyde Hilton. Phoenix Crescent, Bellshill

This event is being hosted by the Health and Safety Executive in partnership with the Care Commission. The aim is to provide managers of care  and residential homes with information and guidance on their health and safety duties. Attendees will be informed of the key causes of injuries and ill health and how to prevent them. The Health and Safety Executive in partnership with Renfrewshire Council will be giving presentations and practical demonstrations relating to health and safety in the construction industry. The target audience includes construction SMEs from the council's approved list as well as other local businesses.
