In 2007/08 the prevalence rate of self-reported work-related ill-health in public administration was higher than for all industries (5.7 % people working in the last year, vs. 3.4% for all industries).
Self-reported and THOR surveillance scheme data indicates the rate of work-related stress was higher in public administration than in other industries, in the most recent data.
An estimated 3 million days were lost to work related ill-health or injury in public administration in 2007/08. The corresponding rate of 1.7 days lost per workers was higher than the rate for all industries (1.2 days per worker).
Compared with other industry groups relatively more of all the reported injuries in public administration were less serious, i.e. over-3-day injuries relative to major and fatal injuries. Indeed, compared to other industries this industry has one of the highest rates of reported over-3-day injuries (780.1 per 100 000 employees in 2007/08p).
Relative to other industries a higher proportion of reported injuries in public administration were caused by acts of violence.
