The rate of reported major injuries in transport, storage and communication has fluctuated showing no clear trend over the period 1999/2000 to 2007/08. However, in recent years the rate of reported over-3-days injuries has fallen. Despite this, in 2007/08p, transport, storage and communication had the highest rate of over-3-day injuries of any main industry group (1245.8 per 100 000 employers).
Relative to other industries a higher proportion of reported injuries were caused by moving vehicles, animals, and striking fixed or stationary objects.
Self-reported and THOR-GP surveillance scheme data indicates that the rate of work-related ill-health in transport, storage and communication was of the same order to all industries, in the most recent data.
