This page contains advice on where to go if you have any enquiries on health and safety in woodworking.

For general enquiries on health and safety in woodworking your first contact should be to HSE's national helpline Infoline. For local site-specific issues you can contact your local HSE Office and ask to speak to an inspector.

HSE's Operational Inspectors

HSE's Operational Inspectors deal with the Woodworking Industry on a day to day basis. They do this by:

• Carrying out inspections.
• Investigating accidents and complaints.
• Providing advice at visits, by phone, or by letter.
• Taking formal enforcement action where necessary.

HSE's Manufacturing Sector (Woodworking Team)

The Woodworking team operates as part of HSE’s Manufacturing Sector.  Our activities include:

• Providing support, advice and guidance to HSE’s Operational inspectors
• Focusing effort to drive down accidents and ill health in the industry to meet the Government’s Revitalising Health and Safety (RHS) targets
• Monitoring the health and safety performance of the industry
• Working with the key stakeholders in the industry trade associations and trade unions
• Publishing guidance for the industry in association with industry bodies
• Working with woodworking industry stakeholders via the Wood Action Group (For further information see Live issues.)
